Flamenco helped me find my inner voice as a strong, tall (5'9) sensual woman. The wonderful art form helped me fall in love with rhythm - not only dancing to the music but being so moved by it that I had to make it myself using my zapateado and castanets. Flamenco shows internal strength and bravery while being incredibly vulnerable. I love the intentionality of every floreo and every gesture. The dynamics flamenco contains, ranging from being minimalistic and intriguing to loud and embellished, are exhilarating. I am classically trained, and have danced all my life, yet I never feel as grounded and tenacious as when I am dancing the beautiful art of Flamenco.

Flamenco holds a profound significance in my life. It goes beyond mere music and dance. As an Asian, I have often found that our cultural upbringing may not provide explicit guidance on how to express and navigate emotions. We tend to keep emotions within ourselves, whether it's joy, grief, love, or longing. However, Flamenco has served as a liberating and transformative force in helping me transcend these cultural barriers. Through the passionate and soulful movements of Flamenco, I have discovered a profound avenue for emotional expression. It also teaches me about resilience, embracing vulnerability, and finding strength in the face of adversity. The art form's emphasis on improvisation and spontaneity has taught me to let go of control and trust in the present moment, fostering a sense of mindfulness and inner awareness. It has also been instrumental in my journey of self-discovery. It has allowed me to explore my identity, both culturally and personally.
